LibreOffice covers everything most people need: Writer for documents, Calc for spreadsheets, Impress for presentations, plus drawing and database tools. It opens and saves Microsoft formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx), so you can exchange files with colleagues and clients who use Office. Best of all, it is completely free and legal, removing any reason to risk a pirated copy of Microsoft Office.

For students submitting assignments and small businesses producing invoices and reports, it is more than enough.

Writing in Urdu is well supported. LibreOffice includes an Urdu interface and proper right-to-left text handling, and works with the standard Urdu phonetic and CRULP keyboard layouts in Windows. You can mix Urdu and English in the same document, use Nastaliq-style fonts like Jameel Noori Nastaleeq if installed, and produce clean bilingual reports, letters and notices.

If you switch between devices a lot, browser-based suites help. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are free with a Google account and save automatically to the cloud, which is great when the power goes out mid-edit. Microsoft offers free web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint through a Microsoft account too. Both need an internet connection, so they pair well with home fibre but are less convenient on a tight mobile data plan.

If you specifically need Microsoft Office, buy it legally. A Microsoft 365 personal subscription is billed annually and, converted to rupees, typically runs in the low tens of thousands of PKR per year depending on the exchange rate and current offers, while a one-time Office Home edition is a larger upfront amount. Compare that with LibreOffice at zero cost and the free choice makes sense for most users, with Microsoft 365 worth it mainly if you rely on its cloud and collaboration features.

Pirated Office copies and "activation" tools (KMS-style cracks) are common locally but risky. They frequently carry malware, can stop working after an update, and using one is illegal. With LibreOffice and free online suites available, there is no need to take that gamble. If you must have Microsoft Office, a genuine licence or 365 subscription is the safe route.
